Responsive Individualized Support & Early Intervention (RISE)

The Responsive Individualized Support and Early Intervention (RISE) Program is a multidisciplinary partnership between Truman Medical Centers and UMKC that aims to provide early intervention and support for individuals and families affected by gun violence.

Victims of gun violence receive early crisis intervention and stepped up care as needed to enhance resiliency and recovery in the aftermath of a shooting. If you or someone you know has been a victim of gun violence in the Kansas City area and would like more information, call (816) 299-1638.

Skills for Psychological Recovery for Violent Loss Survivors

Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR), a flexible, skills-based early intervention designed for trauma survivors. SPR is a modular treatment developed by the National Center for PTSD and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network intended to help trauma survivors in the early recovery phase.

We are currently piloting this intervention with bereaved family members of fatal accident, suicide, and homicide victims to help promote recovery and provide support during the first weeks and months after a traumatic loss.

College Student Stressful Experiences Survey

College students and young adults routinely experience potentially traumatic events. This study aims to explore the prevalence of trauma exposure in a sample of college students and to identify cognitve, affective, and familial factors associated with long-term adjustment to traumatic events in college students.

Multicampus Evaluation of the Men's Program

The Men's Program is a program led by college men for college men on ways that men can help end sexual assault and rape and help rape survivors. Partnering with two college campuses in the greater Charleston, SC, area, we are currently completing data collection on a project looking at the feasibility of implementing and evaluating The Men's Program on two diverse campuses.
